Ubicada en los terrenos históricos del Instituto Educativo St. Jude, LIFE3 Academy continúa con orgullo un legado de igualdad y libertad educativas. Fundada en 1946, St. Jude fue un faro de esperanza durante una era de segregación y dificultades. Sirvió como refugio durante la icónica Marcha de Selma a Montgomery en 1965, brindando refugio y fortaleza a quienes defendían los derechos civiles. Hoy, sigue siendo un poderoso símbolo de resiliencia, y es un testimonio de la lucha inquebrantable por la justicia y la igualdad.
En LIFE3 Academy, honramos esta rica historia al ofrecerles a nuestros estudiantes una educación excepcional que fomenta su crecimiento, tanto académico como personal. Al fomentar una base sólida de conocimiento y liderazgo, nuestro objetivo es continuar con el legado de empoderamiento y progreso que inició St. Jude.
UNA BASE HISTÓRICA DE EMPODERAMIENTO
St. Jude, fundada originalmente como una escuela secundaria privada católica romana, fue creada por el padre Harold Purcell con la visión de promover a la comunidad negra. El instituto no solo ofrecía un programa de preparación universitaria, sino que también brindaba habilidades esenciales y educación profesional para adultos, fomentando el empoderamiento de la comunidad.
El campus de St. Jude jugó un papel fundamental durante las marchas de Selma a Montgomery de 1965, al albergar la manifestación “Estrellas por la libertad”, en la que participaron artistas como Harry Belafonte, Peter, Paul and Mary, Tony Bennett y el comediante Sammy Davis Jr. En 1990, el campus se agregó al Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos y ahora es parte integral del Sendero Histórico Nacional de Selma a Montgomery, designado en 1996.
